While Inch's first solo outing The Bedroom combines her love of both acoustic singer-songwriters and kooky electronic, the latest offering Wallflower continues her fascination with 8-bit electronic, folk flourishes and ukulele pop. With this release, she revisits her rock roots by infusing elements and incorporates swing and jazz into the music as well.
Wallflower is almost like a diary of a young girl entering adulthood. Each song works like a journal entry for Inch as she puts her thoughts and feelings to music. The self-titled track talks about her insecurities and feelings of inadequacy while growing up and 'Red Dot' is a musing on her identity as a Singaporean. 'The Return Of The Fat Cat' is a tune to console a friend feeling depressed upon National Service enlistment. With its Disney-soundtrack-esque vibe, lead single 'Mt. Epiphany' is a tribute to her persistence in the department of love. Bonus track 'Try A Little Harder' was specifically written for Malaysia's telecommunications company DiGi's advertisement.
Recorded partially in Inch's bedroom (literally), Snakeweed Studio and LASALLE College of the Arts, the album is mixed by Leonard Soosay at Snakeweed Studio and mastered by Troy Glessner at Spectre Mastering, USA. As with her previous releases, Wallflower will be released on Saturday 17 July 2010 as a free download on her official site.
